FROM COMMON THINGS LIKE WEAR AND TEAR, TO TRAUMA OR DISEASE, some adults have experienced permanent tooth loss. Regardless of the level of loss, our patients commonly experience oral discomfort and a lack of confidence as a result. Of course, permanent tooth loss is something Dr. Pitts and his team always do their best to prevent. However, when it isn’t possible, the good news is that today we can offer beautiful and highly functional solutions. One solution we offer is implant dentistry. This procedure started with initial discoveries about how bones can fuse with titanium, making natural bone support possible. From it’s original findings in the 1950’s, this bone fusion has come a long way, today making it possible for Dr. Pitts to copy the root and tooth system that your mouth naturally has. Implants are first placed within the gum line. Then, they are given 3–6 months healing time to ensure complete and proper fusion. After the implants have healed, the custom crown, bridge, or dentures can be placed. After this placement (unlike traditional dentures or bridges) the solution is much stronger and long lasting, giving you the confident smile you desire. As with most dental procedures, dental implants begin with a consultation with Dr. Pitts to help with any questions and allow him the chance to create a custom-tailored plan that best meets your needs.
Here is a simple illustration of how dental implants work:
