TODAY WE’D LIKE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT A VERY SENSITIVE TOPIC—sensitive teeth! Ok, we know that not all of you have sensitive teeth, but for those of you that do, it’s something very unpleasant and frustrating to deal with! Tooth sensitivity can come from a variety of different things, ranging from sweet and sour foods, hot and cold temperatures, and even simply biting down. The resulting pain can be mild or severe, and oftentimes is very sharp as it shoots right into the nerve endings. Though there are many different causes of sensitivity, they all result in the same problem: The nerve endings in your teeth become too easily exposed, resulting in a lower tolerance for the things you put in your mouth. No matter the level, Dr. Pitts and his team know that tooth sensitivity is quite a nuisance, and very unpleasant, so here’s a few things you can do to help your teeth be less sensitive: BRUSHING: Keep up proper dental hygiene to prevent tarter buildup and help reduce the risk of exposing nerves. A soft bristled toothbrush causes less abrasion and reduces potential gum recession. There are also several brands of toothpaste you can buy that help decrease sensitivity with regular use. DAILY ROUTINE: Daily use of fluoride-enhanced mouthwash can decrease sensitivity. Avoid highly acidic foods, as they can contribute to the dissolve of tooth enamel. Teeth grinding and clenching can also lead to wearing of the enamel. Dr. Pitts can help preventing and solve your sensitive tooth issues, so don’t hesitate to come see him! After learning about your habits and understanding your teeth, we can recommend solutions that will help make your teeth less sensitive and your daily life more enjoyable. Or if you have any other questions about tooth sensitivity, send us a question through our contact page or Facebook—chances are that you have the same question as many other patients and we’d love to share what we know. And, as always… THANK YOU for being our valued patient. We are honored by the trust you show in our practice.
