In fact, by the time children begin kindergarten, <strong>40 percent have some kind of tooth decay!<\/strong> Remember, just because your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews aren\u2019t complaining about tooth pain (and their teeth \u201clook\u201d OK), it doesn\u2019t necessarily mean their teeth are OK.  Fall is a great time to assess your health goals and get back on track after a leisurely summer. Let <strong>our practice<\/strong> help. Be sure dental checkups are part of <em>your<\/em> back-to-school checklist. <\/p>\n<h3><strong>Typically Included In A Regular Checkup Or Back-To-School Exam:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p> Here are some of the\u00a0<strong>services<\/strong>\u00a0we typically take care of during regular checkups and back-to-school exams: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Thorough Cleaning<\/strong>: Professional cleanings help prevent gum disease\u2014keeping your teeth healthier, longer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Checking For Cavities<\/strong>: Take care of cavities before they become bigger problems, leading to pain and tooth loss.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Checking Existing Dental Work<\/strong>: We check fillings, crowns, sealants, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Examining Oral Tissue &amp; Jaw Function:<\/strong> Early detection helps prevent oral cancer and related problems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fluoride Application:<\/strong> For cavity prevention. Especially now that Calgary City Council unilaterally and undemocratically removed the Fluoride from our municipal water supply and cavities are happening more rapidly in many of our patients.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p> [youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4PiAaZIvaS8&#038;version=3&#038;hl=en_US&#038;rel=0] <\/p>\n<h3><strong>Important Things You Can Do<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Have your children (over the age of 3)\u00a0<strong>brush twice a day<\/strong> with a fluoride toothpaste. <strong>Remind them<\/strong> to brush gently and pay special attention to their gum line.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teach<\/strong> the good habit of flossing each day.<\/li>\n<li>Give kids <strong>healthier snack foods<\/strong> such as fresh fruits and veggies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Limit<\/strong> sugary snacks &amp; high-carb foods.
