We may not have the power some creatures have\u2014but the complexity and precision of the human bite is simply remarkable. <\/p>\n<h3><strong>Our Jaws And Teeth\u00a0Balance Force And\u00a0Precision<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p> <strong>To demonstrate this delicate balance for yourself, try this\u2026 Pop a peanut M&amp;M in your mouth and eat the chocolate <em>around<\/em> the nut, leaving the nut intact. Then, chew the nut.<\/strong> There\u2019s a big difference in the pressure exerted when biting through the chocolate, versus\u00a0biting through the nut. Also think about the coordination happening between your jaw muscles, brain, tongue, teeth and mouth to make this happen! <strong>Amazing.<\/strong>  Or, try this one\u2026 Bite into a fresh carrot. <strong>The force needed to do so\u00a0is enough to crack your tooth enamel\u2014yet,\u00a0your jaw slows down in time to spare damage to your teeth.<\/strong> Our jaw control is\u00a0sophisticated enough to \u201cbrake\u201d and adjust pressure mid-bite! <\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Human Bite Is Extremely\u00a0Efficient<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p> Humans have less\u00a0jaw muscle mass than gorillas and chimpanzees. However, this reduced mass doesn\u2019t mean reduced strength. It indicates increased efficiency.
