What we <em>do<\/em> know is that canker sores can be extremely bothersome! By better understanding some of the possible causes\u2014and some treatment options\u2014we hope to reduce the irritation canker sores may cause you. <\/p>\n<h3><strong>Possible Canker Sore Causes\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p> These non-contagious lesions that appear on your gums, lips, cheeks, and the roof of your mouth may be caused by: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>irritation (from harsh brushing, braces, biting the inside of your mouth, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>high stress levels<\/li>\n<li>bacterial infections<\/li>\n<li>improper nutrition and\/or vitamin deficiencies<\/li>\n<li>immune system issues<\/li>\n<li>food allergies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Tips For Reducing Canker Sore Pain And Duration<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>   <strong>There\u2019s no cure-all solution for canker sores.<\/strong> But, there are a few things you can do to reduce their painful impact and <em>possibly<\/em>\u00a0reduce your susceptibility. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A baking soda or salt water rinse can soothe pain.<\/li>\n<li>A daily dose of Vitamin B12 can reduce sore frequency and duration.<\/li>\n<li>Certain over-the-counter products can help with pain and healing.<\/li>\n<li>Do your best to reduce stress! Exercise may help!<\/li>\n<li>Watch what you eat&#8230; Notice if certain foods trigger your canker sores.<\/li>\n<li>Regularly using an antiseptic rinse may help with prevention.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid hot or spicy foods that may further irritate sores.<\/li>\n<li>Check your toothpaste. Some research shows that SLS (an ingredient found in many toothpastes) may aggravate canker sores.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>An Important Note<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p> Canker sores usually heal themselves in a week or two. <strong>If yours don\u2019t, please call us to set up an appointment!
