TOOTH DECAY IS THE #1 CHRONIC DISEASE IN CHILDREN. It’s estimated that 40% of children have some form of tooth decay before they even reach kindergarten. Alarming, isn’t it? But SO much of the problem is preventable through routine hygiene appointments.
What can patients expect from a back-to-school checkup at your office?
A big part of the dentist’s role is to monitor children as they grow. They see where things need to improve and can give you the tools to maintain and improve your child’s oral health. During the actual dental checkup, our dentist, Dr. Olga Dolghier will review your child’s dental and medical history, examine your kid’s teeth, jaws, and oral tissue, clean and polish your child’s teeth and then apply a fluoride solution. Some great tips for kids and parents in keeping their mouths fresh and clean during the school year are:
- Always brush your teeth after lunch- make it a point to keep a toothbrush in your desk or in your backpack.
- Floss twice daily- especially before bed so that food doesn’t have a chance to damage your teeth during the night.
- Encourage your children to eat regular, nutritious meals and avoid frequent in-between meal snacking.
- Use a fluoride toothpaste to help keep teeth strong.
What preventative measures do you offer to protect from decay and other oral health issues?
Many schools require the results of a dental checkup in the beginning of each year. With the school year rapidly approaching, it is imperative that parents begin scheduling appointments now. Every patient, young or old, should undergo routine checkups in a timely basis. Typically, if you or your child has not gone to the dentist in the last six months, it’s time for them to have a dental examination. Besides school approaching and six months passing, the immediate need to schedule an appointment comes from the fact that many other parents have already booked theirs. If you want your child to keep a bright, healthy smile before school, call ASAP so you don’t miss your chance for an appointment.
Add Dental Checkups To Your Back-To-School Checklist
Don’t wait until there’s a problem—even if your child isn’t complaining about discomfort. Tooth pain doesn’t usually exist until decay reaches the tooth’s pulp. At that point, it’s probably advanced and may require more extensive treatment. Good preventive treatment happens BEFORE there’s pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWK8s8P6_ro
