TOOTH DECAY IS THE #1 CHRONIC DISEASE IN CHILDREN. It’s estimated that 40% of children have some form of tooth decay before they even reach kindergarten. Alarming, isn’t it? But SO much of the problem is preventable through routine hygiene appointments.
What Can Patients Expect From A Back-To-School Checkup?
A dental cleaning (prophylaxis) performed in our office includes Cavitron, hand scaling. flossed and polishing to remove plaque, tartar, calculus, and stains from portions of the tooth that extends above the gumline. Bleeding and sensitivity would be noted. Oral Hygiene instructions would be given. Xrays will be taken as needed. You will also be scheduled for an “exam” by Dr. Brei. He will perform an extra and intra oral cancer screening, note and communicate all restorative dental needs, perform a cosmetic evaluation, set your recare duration and appointment priorities.
Add Dental Checkups To Your Back-To-School Checklist
Don’t wait until there’s a problem—even if your child isn’t complaining about discomfort. Tooth pain doesn’t usually exist until decay reaches the tooth’s pulp. At that point, it’s probably advanced and may require more extensive treatment. Good preventive treatment happens BEFORE there’s pain.
