If you’re like many people, when you hear the word “sedation”, you may assume that means “knocked out”. But that’s not the case. With an inhaled sedative, you’re completely awake and alert during the procedure. You’ll be able to see us and talk to us, but you’ll feel relaxed instead of anxious.
Inhalation Sedation Has Been Around For A Long Time
Laughing gas has been used in this way for generations, and remains the most popular form of sedation dentistry. We typically administer the nitrous oxide through a mask over your nose to begin the sedation effects. This “sweet air” leaves you feeling happy and relaxed, and most people who receive it recover very quickly. This conveniently allows you to leave our office unescorted and go about your normal routine without having to wait for the effects to wear off.
