IN THE WILD WORLD OF SPORTS there are many types of “fans”. There are fanatics who don’t hesitate painting their bodies with team colors and braving all outdoor temperatures! On the other hand there are casual fans who catch a handful of games each year but don’t take any of it too seriously. Which end of the spectrum are you on—and why?
- Are you a fanatic or casual sports observer?
- What team(s) do you cheer for?

James:
I’m pretty casual. Sometimes my indifference frustrates my fanatic family members. When I do watch, my teams are the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, the Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake (soccer).
Mark:
I’m a casual sports fan unless it’s for a team I’m playing on—then I become the ultimate fanatic/cheerleader.
Kimberly:
Huge fanatic. Los Angeles Lakers is my team (what, what!) and no one is going to tell me they’re not the best basketball team of all time! Kobe for president!
Hannah:
Extremely casual. If I do watch sports, I always route for the underdog.
Jacqueline:
I’m a very casual sports fan. I don’t have any teams.
Ben:
I’d say fanatic. Duke University is my team. They may not always win but they definitely put on a good show! One time I died my skin blue and white with food coloring for a game. It didn’t come off for days. I looked like a smurf at work!
